Rainy Sunday Open Thread

At long last, we are getting rain – real rain, a rain that continued overnight. A rain that is continuing as I type. We are in an “Exceptional” drought in our neck of the woods. And considering our firebug neighbors are in town this weekend, I cannot tell you how thankful I am to have this rain. It put out their bonfire last night (they have had a bonfire every time they have been in town except once), which is a blessing. We live in a LOG HOME. Ahem. Anyway, I am sitting here, watching the rain across the marsh, and it is a beautiful sight to behold, indeed…

A few stories I want to mention, though this is an Open Thread, and you can discuss whatever you want. One is the recent statement from SarahPac about the upcoming HBO hatchet movie, “Game Changer,” which seems to focus WAY more on the former Governor from Alaska than the number one person on the ballot. Whatever. SarahPac has a statement about the movie, flat out denying that it bears any resemblance to what actually happened. And they put together a slideshow of photos from the campaign that are really striking. I don’t remember seeing photos like this during the campaign, of tens of thousands of people showing up to see her, or insider shots of Palin working with advisers, or with her handsome husband and kids. Not like these, anyway, if I recall correctly. Typical, I suppose.

To continue in that vein, yesterday’s news revealed that Arizona Sheriff and Romney volunteer, Paul Babeu, was outed. He has since stepped down from working with Romney. Personally, I am not a fan of outing. There is still a tremendous amount of homophobia in this country, and I mean ALL across this country. It is not relegated to one area, or one party.

For instance, the Left continues to use an offensive homophobic slur to refer to Tea Party members, and no matter how many times they are called on it, they continue to use it. Willful homophobia from the people who claim to be so open and welcoming. Please.

Since I mentioned how open minded the Left is, this article should make you feel all warm and fuzzy (not), “Charles Koch, employees reveal e-mailed threats from past year.” To be clear, those are DEATH threats against the Koch brothers, and they are the target of the OWSers. So open to other points of view, so tolerant, so nonviolent. Right. Wow. It’s okay for Soros and cohorts to shell out gazillions of dollars for liberal causes, but let there be two conservatives, who, by the way are big time philanthropists, supporters of the arts, and environmental causes, even getting praise from President Obama himself. Yet they are targets and recipients of death threats. Wow.

And in news from across the pond, turns out Adolph Hitler fathered a child:

Jean-Marie Loret, who died in 1985 aged 67, never met his father, but went on to fight Nazi forces during the Second World War.

His extraordinary story has now been backed up by a range of compelling evidence, both in France and in Germany, which is published in the latest edition of Paris’s Le Point magazine.

Hitler is said to have had an affair with Mr Loret’s mother, Charlotte Lobjoie, 16, as he took a break from the trenches in June 1917. [snip] (Click here to read the rest.)

Talk about karma, huh?

And since tomorrow is Presidents Day, I leave you with this recap of many of our presidents courtesy of the Animaniacs:

What’s on your mind today?

  1. Republican Sens. Pat Toomey (Pa.), Kay Bailey Hutchison (Tex.), John
Thune (S.D.) and Scott Brown (Mass.) want to know: Why has the Senate
taken no action on four bills to create jobs when those bills passed the
House of Representatives by broad bipartisan majorities?

1 The Small Company Capital Formation bill changes
SEC rules to allow companies to sell up to $50 million in shares without
filing lengthy paperwork — and its equivalent passed the House by a
    vote of 421 to 1.
Sen. Pat Toomey has introduced the companion measure in the Senate, and
his bill enjoys the support of numerous Democratic co-sponsors.

2 Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison’s Shareholder Registration Thresholds bill
would increase the number of shareholders permitted to invest in a
community bank from 500 to 2,000. Its House version passed the lower
chamber by a slightly smaller margin than Sen. Toomey’s bill — or 420 to 2. Democratic senators Claire McCaskill, Ben Nelson and Mark Pryor are co-sponsors.

3 The Access to Capital for Job Creators act,
sponsored by Sen. John Thune, would eliminate an SEC regulation that
inhibits companies from reaching out to potential investors in order to
raise capital. More than 400 members of the House voted for its equivalent, too — 175 of them Democrats.

4 The House version of Sen. Scott Brown’s Democratizing Access to Capital act drew the support of 169 House Democrats — and 407 members of the House total. It would change SEC regulations that inhibit entrepreneurs from raising capital among large groups of small dollar investors.

Oh, sure, the Senate spent this past week negotiating a payroll tax cut
extension no less than the House — but the four aforementioned bills
aren’t the only jobs bills Mr. Reid continues to ignore. Remember the Forgotten 15? For a while there, folks actually talked about them, but it seems they’ve been … forgotten … again.

And Barry still insists on blaming the House Republicans for a do-nothing Congress. People who believe that liar are so lazy they won’t even look at which chamber has passed what bill and passed it to the other chamber. It is very simple and only takes a few moments.

Contrary to what Barry has often said, it is Harry Reid and his democrat cohorts who have caused the inaction on the part of Congress.

Glad you’re going to do one on this issue. I have one coming up tomorrow or thereabouts concerning Obama, Inc., and their blatant hypocrisy, which dovetails with Kat’s current post.

Good morning neighbors! FYI, this will be the last time with my years-old username. Although I read and comment on four blogs occassionally, each time I have been away from NQ, another variation of Sassy emerges….sassy2u….Sassy….Formerly Sassy….and now sassysyl. No way this could be coincidental, and I don’t want those comments attributed to me.
Our son-in-law lost his job in early December, and we have been assisting my sister-in-law whose breast cancer has recurred. She has had chemo, surgery, is now beginning radiation, and then more chemo. She is very sick, and we are very tired.
Politically, the energy of the mid-term election seems to have waned, and I am actually dreading our primary. This administration went on a gambling spree with taxpayer money and lost. Our GDP growth is anemic with unemployment predicted to remain near 8% for years.
During Obama’s term, the national debt has risen from $10.6 trillion to $15.2 trillion. Gasoline prices have risen from $1.67 per gallon on average to $3.56. Another 4 million people are classified by the census bureau as low-income or poor. Our foreign policy is in shambles, particularly the Middle East, and yet Obama’s approval rating is still adequate.
I’m feeling quite a bit of anger toward many republicans who are damaging republican candidates…after all, look at the alternative for goodness sakes! Anyway, I’ll try to register with your appealing site when I have time. Good work team!

Hey, Sassy – wow, it sounds like your family has been going through a LOT. My heart goes out to you as you deal with your sister-in-law’s health, and your son-in-law’s unemployment. How difficult this must all be.

You are so right abt what has transpired during Obama’s 3 short years in office. The Reps need to be unified against Obama, and should be talking abt what each one of them brings to the table to defeat HIM, not each other…

And I hear you abt the same changes. As Ferd said, please let us know on what you settle to use. So glad to see you here!

I just saw this story and had to share it with you: “Muslims Stone Christians On Temple Mount,” http://www.israeltoday.co.il/News/tabid/178/nid/23122/language/en-US/Default.aspx

Here is my favorite part of this story: “Because of the constant threat of Muslim violence, and despite the fact that the Temple Mount is the most holy place on earth to Jews and many Christians, the Israeli police comply with Muslim demands for harsh restrictions on non-Muslim visitors to the site. For instance, Jews and Christians are forbidden to carry Bibles atop the Temple Mount or to utter even silent prayers within its walls. Jews and Christians are regularly detained for violating these conditions.”

    WTH?!?!

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy says:

Can you believe that part abt SILENT PRAYERS?! WTH?? How can one not say prayers in their HEADS? This is just insanity. Why did they ever agree to something like this in the first place??

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy says:

So, so, true, Ferd. It is shocking. To deny the long, long history that very area represents for Jews, and Christians, in deference to a religion that came AFTER both of them under threat is really disturbing…
