Spring has most definitely sprung, at least in my neck of the woods. As I type, it is in the mid-80s outside, the azaleas are in full bloom, as is our Meyer Lemon tree. The wind is coming in from the ocean, bringing the smell of the sea as it makes its way across the marsh. In short, it is a spectacular day. Yes, indeed, Spring has arrived, and the plants that had been dormant over the winter (albeit a very short one here in the Lowcountry) have risen again.
And it is a spectacular day for two horses who were recently surrendered by a man in the area. He claimed he did not know that horses needed regular veterinarian services, regular de-worming, or regular visits from the farrier. For some time, these horses received no care, and little food. One had an open wound on his skin, and all of them were emaciated (he was allowed to keep 2 horses who are in better shape, and is getting regular visits from the County where he lives). The horses went to a local horse rescue agency, Learn Horse Rescue. And the owner is facing a bunch of fines and charges for the neglect.
