Despite Some Efforts To Downplay It, Rosen Has Sparked A Firestorm *Open Thread*

There have been so many stories flying around since Hilary Rosen made her unfortunate attack on Ann Romney the other day. Alert readers have submitted links to some excellent articles, and I want to highlight a few of them here, and provide the opportunity for adding more on this issue.

In case you need a reminder, here is her initial comment about the former First Lady of Massachusetts:

Uh, yeah. Pretty insulting no matter how you look at it. Heck, even Ms. Rosen’s apology is not really an apology:

[snip] “I apologize to Ann Romney and anyone else who was offended,” Rosen said in a statement. “Let’s declare peace in this phony war and go back to focus on the substance.

“Let’s put the faux ‘war against stay-at-home moms’ to rest once and for all. As a mom I know that raising children is the hardest job there is. As a pundit, I know my words on CNN last night were poorly chosen,” Rosen added.[snip] (Click here to read the rest.)

“Phony war”? “Faux ‘war against stay-at-home moms’”? Hardly. The comment she made was clearly a slam, no matter how she now wants to try and frame it. She was condescending and arrogant when she made the slam, and is condescending and arrogant in her apology.

Honestly, Ms. Rosen needs to stop talking now. As Helenk noted in a comment providing a link to WeaselZippers, Ms. Rosen is also trying to claim that the Democrats have not used the phrase, “War on Women.” I don’t know what the hell this woman is smoking – oh, wait – yes I do – “Hopium” – but she needs to stop. As the article pointed out, at the DNC store itself, there are, for sale, magnets that specifically mention the “War on Women.”

Other articles have been brought to light, including that, despite the attempts to paint Ms. Romney as a privileged woman being the primary reason she was able to stay at home with her kids, the 2010 US Census Data tells a different tale:

[snip] The data, though, don’t support the impression that staying at home is a luxury. A detailed 2010 study by two Census Bureau sociologist, in fact, found the opposite: While stay-at-home motherhood has become less common over time, the women who stay at home are increasingly those whose low education means they can’t earn enough money to making working outside the home worthwhile.[snip] (Click here to read the rest.)

So, yeah, insulting a number of women who may well constitute the Democratic base is not the smartest thing to do.

Nor is it all that bright for the president of NOW, Terry O’Neill to make disparaging remarks either (h/t to Helenk for this article, too). Ms. O’Neill did so about both Romneys, actually, suggesting they had neither the “life experience” or “imagination” necessary to really understand all of us regular ol’ Americans. Right. I’m pretty sure she insulted both of them in a number of ways with that arrogant and condescending statement.

What the hell is it with these people? Why are these women so patronizing and dismissive? Two women who have spent time int he political arena, and who support Conservative women have an idea (h/t pssttcmere), as this headline suggests: “Why The Left Fears Ann Romney.” This is an outstanding piece, and I cannot do it full justice here, so I urge you to read the whole thing. But here are some highlights from this piece:

[snip] In her stunning comments, Rosen claims Romney “never really dealt with the kind of economic issues that a majority of women in the country are facing.”

Moms all across this country look to the unemployment numbers, which have disproportionately affected women, and worry about their families’ immediate future and security.

Moms look to record high gas prices as they begin to plan summer road trips. Women make 80% of all health care decisions in our country, so it’s no wonder a consistent majority of them oppose Obamacare.

Moms know how to make and maintain a budget and are left wondering why it has taken Harry Reid over 1,050 days to pass a budget in the male-dominated, Democrat-led U.S. Senate.

Moms know the crushing legacy that debt can leave and are outraged that, as of today, each of our children owes $50,017.33 of the national debt. This is the legacy of the Obama administration, and this is why liberals like Ms. Rosen make personal attacks on mothers like Ann Romney, rather than debate the issues most important to women.[snip] (Click here to read the rest.)

And that is the crux of the matter. Rather than debate the real issues, which would be BAD for Obama, the Democrats are attacking and blaming, ginning up their own “faux” war by claiming that it is not they attacking women, but Republicans. And they claim this all evidence to the contrary.

Except for Rosen who claims the Democrats have never uttered such words. Even though a pretty major Democrat, the Vice President, did just last night. Wow.

So, keep those links and articles coming. Despite attempts to downplay this firestorm, or sweep it under the proverbial rug, Ms. Rosen did this to herself, and the attempts by some to downplay her assertion are doing the Democrats no good at all. Though I have to say, even this has taken some heat off of Obama for paying women in the White House less…

Let’s hear it. Consider this an Open Thread!

Good GRIEF – how is it that someone can make it to that position and be so unclear on that concept?! I hope they make lots of hay out of this most recent BS out of DWS’s mouth…

    ========================
The only phony war is the war that the progressives claim the conservatives are pushing.

The only ones who have actually declared a war are the democrats to keep the women in the kitchen on their plantation.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy says:

I agree completely, Ferd. It is just more of their smoke, mirrors, deflection, blaiming, and dismissing crapola.

And you can bet your bottom dollar if ANYONE had said anything remotely close to this abt Michelle during 2008, this would not be seen as a “faux” or “phony” war. Not even close…

      • Ferd Berfle says:

What really chaps my backside, Amy, is that these same progressives who criticize Ms Romney are all in for welfare Moms who stay at home living off the government dole, having child after child that we, the taxpayers, get to support. I’d much rather have a land full of responsible adults like Ann than the alternative that the progressives offer us.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy says:

Yes, the Romneys have been pretty self sufficient. They have struggled, and worked hard their whole lives. What the hell is wrong with that?? (I didn’t know until tonight abt how they struggled while at BYU – what a story, though it sounds like no matter how much they had to pinch pennies, they were happy.)

    weird thought
they have gone after MOM – Apple Pie – and Chevrolet since 2008

Mom – Anne Romney and other stay at home mothers

Apple PIe – meechelle and her lunch programs – you eat what I say, while I eat what I want

Chevrolet – bailout giving most stock to the unions and trying to kill us with chevy volt

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy says:

Isn’t that amazing? I saw the Gibson CEO on tv the other day. The gov’t sto;; has their very expensive wood, too, which has to be kept at a certain temp. Not to mention forcing Gibson to come up with substitutes for the wood they had taken. Just ridiculous. This is the most vindictive Admin. I have ever seen.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy says:

That is just offensive. What in the sam hill would make them assert such a thing? There is NO evidence that Romney is anything but supportive of women, and to assert otherwise, or to assert that he is racist, is both rumor- and fearmongering.

I am scared to see the depths to which these people will sink to keep The One in office…

  3. Ferd Berfle says:

Wow. The MSM is going on and on (and on) about Secret Service misconduct in South America while Obama’s misconduct that has been going on for at least three years is ignored, excused, rationalized, or buried.

    Go figure.

Did you hear about this one?

Seething Barack Obama Listens As President of Brazil Lectures Him On Failing American Monetary Policy

Going largely unreported by the mainstream media is a clearly angry President Obama being given a detailed lecture as to how the irresponsible deficit spending of the Obama administration is negatively impacting the economies of developing nations.

Apparently there is a video of Obama getting this lecture from the president of Brazil.
