Lost in Translation

I need to stop opening the Toshiba first thing in the morning, because I find the habit tends to start my day on the wrong foot. Maybe I’ll try to just stay away from the headlines, while I’m getting mentally and physically ready for the day. I’m sure it would be healthier.

Brewer’s Book Sales Sizzle after Obama Meet & Greet

Governor Jan Brewer met President Barack Obama’s plane in Arizona last Wednesday. A few hours later, I opened my Toshiba to find an AP photo of my favorite Governor locked in what looked like a feisty conversation with the POTUS.

There was also a headline that proclaimed:

President Obama, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, Share Tense Tarmac Moment

The linked ABC story covered the news that the Governor and the President had a less than amiable encounter. The story said that Obama didn’t like what she wrote in her book, and Brewer’s response was less than reverential.

Brewer wants him to reconsider the needs of Arizonians, who shoulder the burden of Obama’s Border Policy. Surprisingly, the ABC story included the following section on Brewer’s new book:

Accounts from both camps later said the terse talk focused on Brewer’s book — Scorpions for Breakfast: My Fight Against Special Interests, Liberal Media and Cynical Politicos to Secure America’s Border.

The book, which was released in November, describes a June 2010 Oval Office meeting between Obama and Brewer aimed at diffusing conflicts surrounding Arizona’s controversial state immigration law and the administration’s immigration policy.

At the time, the White House called it a “good meeting,” while Brewer’s staff said it was “cordial.”

But Brewer paints a much different picture in her book.

Brewer complains in “Scorpions for Breakfast” that she and her staff were treated coldly by White House aides, prevented from taking pictures in the holding room outside the Oval Office and that their cell phones and cameras were “confiscated” by Secret Service.

“Too bad we weren’t illegal aliens, or we could have sued them,” she writes.

As one would suspect, the comments lean Progressive like the site, and as a result, there is a lot of hate directed at Governor Brewer. It is reminiscent of the vitriol once directed toward Hillary Clinton and that has never ceased toward Sarah Palin.
